Wall Decorations - Bit of This, Bit of That

For today’s blog I thought I would share with you my efforts at decorating my son’s bedroom walls. It has probably taken me over a year to fill it all– but I have to say I am very happy with the end result (no prizes for guessing my son’s name!)
The short wall has a green painted jungle sillouette (cost less than $5) which I finished before Ollie was born

The window wall has two aqua bump pics which my very best girlfriends gave to us for our engagement and one of my "peg it up" lines which i rotate pictures on (blatant self promotion - you can buy them here in packs of 7 or 10 pegs!)
The final (long) wall is the one I have been working on. From left to right:

1.      Handmade name sign
2.      My Sweetprint Counting Poster which the lovely Janette kindly changed to Portuguese for me - so now was can count to ten in Portuguese when changing nappes
3.      Handmade Ollie’s first shoes – see my blog post about how to make these here
4.      (top and middle) framed postcards from Inaluxe (purchased in a pack of 8)
5.   Oliver name – artwork by Paul Thurlby
6.      Prints by Red Letter Studio – these were originally greeting cards, but the very kind Samone re-sized them for me to frame

So that’s it. What do you think? I have to admit it makes me smile whenever I go in (maybe not first thing in the morning at 6.30 though).

What great decorating ideas have you seen for little ones room?

Anthropologie - my wish list just got longer

The “Anthropologie” Store markets itself as a “one-of-a-kind and compelling shopping experience that makes women feel beautiful, hopeful and connected.”
Not sure if I feel beautiful after looking at it – but I definitely feel hopeful that I will one day be able to buy lots of things from it!
They offer a huge range of products for the entire house / lifestyle including: bedding, bath, jewellery, kitchen, hardware, table, books & journals, office, hobbies and kids.

Some of my favourites:

1 Cover story postcards
2 Colour swatch door knob
3 Measured time clock
4 Charley Harper Flash Cards & Floor puzzle
5 Tea & Crumpet Apron
6 Birds on a wire dinnerware

Bad news – no stores in Australia. Good news – they deliver to Australia in 7-10 working days!

Now I eat my ABC's

Now that my little one is well advanced in his reading (OK he actually still just likes to eat the books) I feel I should help advance his reading skills by providing easy access alphabet letters to play with (or eat). Now you could go old school like these ones-

But I love the look of these ones by "beyond the seam" on etsy (as seen on Young House Love blog). They are perfect for little ones and even have the magnets sown inside the letters away from hungry mouths.

And even better - why not paint a magnetic wall and that way you can keep the fridge clear for things like your water bill (which reminds me.....)

Beautiful Cards, Notecards & Fun Magnets

As a self-confessed stationery-aholic and a bit of a greeting card fanatic, I love checking out other people’s cards, and whilst I openly admit I love my own cards (which you can buy on line at Made It – sorry bit of a self plug there) I can always appreciate other beautiful cards.

Often I find simple is best and that is the case with fin+roe’s line of cards and products. fin+roe is the custom stationary division of marzipan inc. (According to their website) It all started 7 years ago when lori made her own wedding invitations, moved onto greeting cards for friends and family and then decided to take her dream a bit more seriously (sounds awfully like where I am now!).

fin+roe range includes letter press greeting cards, custom birth announcements, wedding invitations, birthday invitations, alphabet magnets and many products, but my favourite are the notecards. A Set of 25 high quality, professionally printed notecards, measuring 4" x 5.5" and including envelopes is only $1.49 and you can customise the colour, pattern and text!

Check them out – even if you don’t order any – they are beautifully simple to look at and dream. And PS – they do deliver to Australia!

Now I know my ABC’s.....

Now that my little boy is at the reading age – OK more like he is at the age where I read and he tries to eat the book and tear the pages – anyway - I have started looking for some ABC flash cards. Who knows if this method actually works – but I have become a bit obsessed with them. You can get sweet ones, vintage ones, nerdy ones – the list is endless. So – for all those looking for ABC cards (they make great presents also) – here are a few to choose from.
English Alphabet Flash Cards - 1940s reproduction of a childrne's french book - from "Touch of Europe"

A is for Apple Vintage Flashcards - 5x7 - Set of 26 - from "prettylittlestudio" on etsy

For something a little different (and tongue in cheek) - Nerdy Baby ABC flash cards
from "electricboogaloo" on etsy

Alphabet Letter Photography from "alfabetfotos" on etsy
Apparently these images / letters are the result of four years of "letter harvesting" excursions in 3 countries and 15 states. You can check out Michael's full collection here
