My Creative Space - My Son's new Big Boy Room

My Creative Space this week is my sons new "Big Boy" bedroom. His new room used to be the study / office / spare bedroom / general dumping ground and it took me about 2 weeks to empty it out and find places for everything elsewhere in the house (side note - I currently can't find anything!) The bed has been sold on ebay and is due to go this week, the large white chest of drawers is listed on ebay (bargain starting price of $1.00 and ends tonight if anyone is interested). Next step - repaint the red wall back to a white blank canvas.

In the meantime I have been scouring Pinterest for inspiratioin for his room - and so far here is my inspiration:

Fish on the wall - image via Ohdeedoh - these are actually felt - but i think I will paint them on (and most likley hide a little nemo amongst the blue fish)

Whale and boat on the wall - image via Hola Mama

Some ever popular Ikea Spice Rack Bookshelves - image via here. And i quite like those hanging clouds too.

The play room / dining room is right next door so that means we don't need a lot of toy storage in the room. One problem solved.

For now we are going to keep him in his cot, but also have a trundle bed (i.e. super low bed) on the floor which will be great for reading books and will eventually become his big boy bed. So that means we need some cushions to make it super comfy! Stay tuned for what i can find / make in that department.

Artwork on the walls will be largely taken from his existing room (see previous blog post about them here) - plus this print I am yet to purchase off etsy by Gemini Studio

Whilst i get busy with some paint brushes - feel free to check out my Pinterest board dedicated to Kids Rooms here. And don't forget to check out lots more Creative Spaces over at Our Creative Spaces

DIY fun - Serving Pink Lemonade

Thanks to the wonders of Pinterest (thanks Janette of My Sweet Prints for pinning this one!) I have discovered the wonderful blog of Serving Pink Lemonade. This great blog is the brainchild of Jeanine and Amy - two sisters who live on opposite sides of the country - but share a common love of activities to keep the kids busy and happy. And best of all - they offer great tutorials on how to make all the stuff too. And don't be fooled by the name - there is stuff for the little boys in your life too.

Some of my favourites (but there are way too many to list them all):

and the best for last - Quiet Books including full templates and tutorials.

If you have kids and are crafty inclined (or have a granny that is!!!) - i cannot recommend enough that you check out Serving Pink Lemonade. And best of all - you don't need super fancy sewing abilities to do these tutorials.

Sewing Inspiration - Floor cushions and Pouches

My trawling though Pinterest this morning lead me to these great DIY sewing tutorials and they are now high on my (very long) list of sewing projects to try.

Floor cushion DIY by "Living with Punks"

Sarah Jane's use of the tutorial. Thinking maybe one for the floor in the my son's new big boy room

iPhone pouch DIY by "made during quiet time". I am forever struggling to find my phone in my bag - this could be the answer.
Zipper pouch tutorial by twelve22. I am a little scared by zippers but this easy to follow tutorial makes it look super easy.

What creative projects have you got planned for the weekend?

Connor Clark - a scottish illustrator

It was this image that initally caught my attention on Pinterest...

And if you follow me on facebook, you will know it had me slightly confused. Intrigued I followed the links and came across the website of Connor Clark, a scottish illustrator, for which there is very little information available on the web. All I could find was this somewhat illusive interview by Underspray in 2006.
Anyway - his illustrations really touched a cord with me - "some" of my favourites below.

Highly recommend you check them all out here.

Family Room Art Work

The great dining room / playroom / family room renovation of 2011 is getting close to completion. I am off to ikea tonight with hubbie reluctantly in tow (I need him to tie the boxes to the roof racks) to pick up the shelves and dining room table, then one final coat of paint to the windows and we are all done! Just in time too because the bathroom renovation is starting tommorrow!!

So - now the fun part - wall decorations. We have photography throught the rest of the house, but as this will be predominently a play room - I was thinking something more along the kiddie line.

Loving this "dreams for your boy - duck egg" by Harper Grace on etsy

and this great DIY alphabet art DIY poster by the Mother Huddle via Design Mom

I would also like a large black and white photo of my husband, son and I - unfortunately i am usually behind the camera so we don't really have any. May need to enlist my parents help for this one on the weekend.

I would love to hear what you have on your children's playroom wall or any suggestion for mine?

Some DIY Goodness - Hanging things

Feeling a little crafty today so thought i would share some DIY goodness that i have found around the blog world. Both of these ideas can be adapted to suit a multiple of situations including babies rooms, kids parties, big kids dinner parties, baby showers....

First up from Project Weddings - a colourful hanging mobile. This would look great with just the slightest breeze in a room to spin them around:

Next up from Sew She Sews a great mobile for over the kids bed.

I have a bit of a home project of my own in mind at the moment - just waiting on some supplies from etsy. All will be revealed soon!
